Jammu Police Crackdown: Arms and Ammunition Seized, Search for Third Accused Continues

JAMMU: In a major success against rising criminal activities, Jammu Police arrested two wanted criminals and recovered illegal arms and ammunition in a well-coordinated surprise naka operation at Ring Road, Miran Sahib. The crackdown, led by SHO Miran Sahib Inspector Jaipal Sharma under the supervision of Gurmeet Singh SDPO RS Pura and Irshad Hussain SP Headquarters Jammu, demonstrates the police’s swift response to violent crimes in the region.
The Crime: Gunfire at Swarn Palace
The operation was initiated following an incident on 23 February 2025, when police received credible information regarding three criminals who had fired gunshots during a function at Swarn Palace, Miran Sahib. The accused, identified as:
• Rajat Raina alias Rishu, son of Pritam Lal Sharma, resident of Haramkund Flour, Tehsil Marh.
• Raghunandan Kesar alias Raghu, son of Late Ganesh Lal Sharma, resident of Marh.
• Goura Jatt, currently absconding.
After the shooting incident, the trio fled the scene, prompting police action. An FIR (No. 27/2025 U/S 109/3(5) BNS, 3/25 Arms Act) was registered at Police Station Miran Sahib, launching an intensive manhunt.
Police Operation: Arrest and Recovery of Weapons
Acting swiftly, the Jammu Police team, under SHO Jaipal Sharma, utilized human intelligence and technological surveillance to establish a surprise naka (checkpoint) on Ring Road, Miran Sahib. Within hours of the Swarn Palace shooting, two of the three accused—Rajat Raina and Raghunandan Kesar—were intercepted while traveling in a Thar vehicle (JK02DA-2525).
During the search, police recovered:
• Two illegal pistols
• Three live rounds
• One empty cartridge
The Thar vehicle used by the accused has also been seized. However, the third accused, Goura Jatt, managed to evade arrest, and a manhunt is underway to track him down.
Significance of the Operation:
This swift and strategic operation underscores Jammu Police’s commitment to curbing criminal activities and maintaining public safety. The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated for potential links to organized crime and their involvement in other unlawful activities.
