Security Tightened in Old City Jammu: DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma Leads High-Level Review and Public Interaction Drive

JAMMU: In a significant move to ensure public safety and maintain law and order, a comprehensive security check and public outreach program was carried out today in the old city areas of Jammu by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The exercise was led by Shri Shiv Kumar Sharma (IPS), Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, accompanied by Shri Vivek Shekhar (JKPS), SP City North, along with the SDPO City Jammu, SHO Police Station City, and other senior police officials.
The team conducted a meticulous security survey of key and densely populated areas of Jammu, including Panjtirthi, Hari Market, Raghunath Bazar, Mubarak Mandi, Pacca Danga, Lakhdata Bazar, Kachchi Chawni, and Kanak Mandi. These areas are not only commercial hubs but also heritage and tourism hotspots, making them critical zones from both a security and civic standpoint.
During the inspection, the officers actively engaged with local shopkeepers, tourists, senior citizens, and general members of the public. The outreach was aimed at fostering mutual trust, encouraging vigilant behavior, and reinforcing the message of community policing.
DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma emphasized that public cooperation is vital in maintaining peace and harmony. He advised residents and business owners to stay alert, follow police advisories, and report any suspicious behavior or threats to the nearest police unit.
“The Jammu and Kashmir Police is always committed to the safety of its citizens. We are here to protect you, and your cooperation makes our job more effective. In case of any emergency or if you possess any vital information, please contact us immediately,” DIG Sharma said.
He highlighted the importance of community-police synergy in dealing with any potential security challenges, especially in areas that witness large public gatherings and tourist footfall.
