In a significant move to promote community participation in policing, Range Police Headquarters Udhampur organized “Thana Divas” at Police Station Rehambal under the leadership of Rayees Mohammad Bhat (IPS), DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range. He was accompanied by Amod Ashok Nagure (IPS), SSP Udhampur, Additional SP Udhampur, and Dy.SP Headquarters Udhampur.
The event witnessed a robust gathering of people from different walks of life, including civil society members, shopkeeper associations, and other prominent personalities of the area. The platform provided an opportunity for the public to directly voice their grievances and suggestions to the police authorities, fostering a two-way dialogue aimed at addressing community issues.
Public Grievances and Assurance of Redressal:
During the interaction, a range of issues related to law and order, drug menace, traffic management, and civic concerns were raised by participants. The police officials patiently listened to the concerns and assured that matters falling under the purview of police would be taken up on priority basis. Issues requiring the intervention of the civil administration would be promptly forwarded, with proper feedback to the concerned citizens.
This proactive approach was widely appreciated by the participants, who acknowledged the efforts of the police in bridging the gap between the law enforcement agencies and the local community.
Community Cooperation and Awareness on Emerging Threats:
Addressing the gathering, DIG Rayees Mohammad Bhat underlined the crucial role of community cooperation in maintaining peace and security. He urged the locals to play an active role in identifying anti-national elements, anti-social elements, and drug peddlers operating in the area.
A special emphasis was laid on the growing threat of cybercrime, with the public being sensitized about various tactics adopted by cybercriminals. The participants were encouraged to report any suspicious activity and adopt preventive measures to safeguard themselves from online frauds.
Strengthening Community Policing:
The initiative is part of the larger vision of Jammu and Kashmir Police to promote community policing — a concept aimed at fostering trust, transparency, and partnership between police and the public.
Such engagements not only help in resolving local issues but also create a sense of mutual trust and cooperation, which is vital for ensuring a safe and secure society.
“Thana Divas” at Rehambal reflects the police department’s commitment to building a people-centric policing system where the voice of the community is heard and acted upon. The event serves as a testament to the ongoing efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in making policing more inclusive, transparent, and effective.
The participants lauded the initiative, hoping that such interactive sessions would continue to strengthen the police-public relationship and contribute towards a crime-free society.
