A significant Police-Public interaction meeting was held on 24th October 2024 in Raipur Satwari, under the jurisdiction of the Satwari Police Station, Jammu. The initiative, chaired by Ajay Sharma SP South Jammu, aimed at deepening community-police relations, fostering trust, and strengthening cooperation to tackle local challenges, including drug abuse and other anti-social activities.
Focus on Partnership and Public Safety:
The event saw the participation of senior police officials such as the Station House Officer (SHO) Satwari, officers in charge of ICPP Belicharana and ICPP Gadigarh, along with prominent citizens and youth leaders. SP South emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement and the public, underscoring that effective policing requires community involvement. In this regard, he encouraged the public to join hands with the police to safeguard peace, stability, and societal well-being.
Highlighting the pressing issue of drug abuse, the SP outlined ongoing police efforts to curb such activities and urged citizens to actively support these initiatives. “We must leave no stone unturned in the fight against drugs,” he said, calling on the community to act as vigilant partners by reporting suspicious activities.
Engagement and Addressing Community Concerns:
The meeting also provided a forum for citizens to express concerns related to both policing and issues requiring the civil administration’s intervention. Community members, particularly youth leaders, advocated for more youth-centric programs and counseling sessions to positively channel young minds. The police were urged to facilitate initiatives that could divert youth from the influence of drugs and anti-social behavior.
SP South assured participants that all legitimate concerns would be addressed promptly. He pledged that issues under police jurisdiction would be resolved without delay, while civil grievances would be referred to the relevant authorities.
Strengthening Family and Social Responsibility:
The police emphasized the role of parents in keeping children on the right path, advising them to remain vigilant regarding their children’s behavior and daily activities. Families affected by substance abuse were offered support through the Police Drug De-addiction Centre located in Channi, Jammu. The police reaffirmed their commitment to assisting such families with treatment and counseling.
Reinforcing Traffic Discipline and Safety:
Addressing traffic safety, the police issued strict reminders to the community, urging citizens to follow road safety regulations. The public was advised against transferring vehicles to minors or unfamiliar individuals, to always use seat belts, wear helmets when riding two-wheelers, and avoid reckless driving.
Commitment to Ongoing Cooperation:
The meeting concluded with SP South reiterating the police department’s dedication to resolving community issues in coordination with the civil administration. He stressed that both the police and the public must act as “eyes and ears” to identify and counter anti-social elements effectively.
Community members expressed their gratitude for the open dialogue and welcomed the opportunity to engage directly with law enforcement. They pledged to collaborate closely with the police, sharing a mutual goal of fostering a vigilant, safe, and harmonious environment.
This event underscores the importance of transparent and proactive engagement between the police and the community, laying the foundation for a safer and more cohesive society.
