PM Modi, Other Leaders Extend Greetings On Lohri

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended greetings to people across the country on the occasion of Lohri, wishing joy and prosperity on the festive day. In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Wishing everyone a very happy Lohri!”
President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her heartfelt greetings to Indians in the country and abroad on the occasions of Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal and Magh Bihu. She described these festivals as symbols of India’s rich agricultural traditions and national unity, noting that they reflect gratitude towards nature and the invaluable contribution of farmers. The President expressed hope that the festivals would bring happiness and prosperity to all.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah greeted citizens on Lohri, calling it a festival that symbolises enthusiasm, zeal and new energy. He wished that the celebrations would become a source of happiness and prosperity for everyone.
Extending greetings on a range of harvest festivals celebrated across the country – including Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Lohri, Magh Bihu, Kanuma, Uttarayan and Tusu Parab – Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan emphasised the deep civilisational bond between India, agriculture and nature. He noted that these festivals, though observed under different names and customs, mark the change of seasons, the Sun’s northward journey and the harvest earned through months of hard work by farmers.
Quoting the Tamil philosopher Thiruvalluvar, the Vice-President highlighted the timeless wisdom that the world ultimately depends on agriculture and the dignity of the farmer. He said India’s agricultural heritage has long been the foundation of its economy, culture and social life, and reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening agriculture through initiatives focused on income security, credit access, soil health, irrigation, crop insurance, digital technology and better market access. He called for renewed resolve to support farmers, preserve cultural traditions and work together for an inclusive and prosperous India.
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan also extended greetings to farmers, rural communities and citizens on Makar Sankranti, Lohri and Pongal. He said these festivals celebrate India’s agricultural legacy, gratitude to nature and respect for the hardworking farmers who form the backbone of the nation. Emphasising unity, harmony and shared prosperity, he expressed hope that the festivities would strengthen social bonds and bring renewed well-being to rural families.
