Ajay Charangoo, the head of Panun Kashmir, recently accused the central government of misleading the public on the issue of terrorism. Charangoo claims that the government does not fully understand the threats posed by terrorism and that its policies are failing.
Charangoo highlighted a discrepancy in the figures reported by the Government of India and the local police regarding terrorist activities, which, according to him, underscores the government’s lack of clarity and transparency on the issue. He recalled Operation Hill Kaka, emphasizing the need for a similar comprehensive approach to counter the increasing terror attacks. Charangoo stated that the steps taken by the government to combat terrorism are not only inadequate but, in some cases, counterproductive. He emphasized that the central government’s policies have failed to thwart the terrorists’ plans, thereby posing a serious threat to public safety.
In a press conference, Ajay Charangoo discussed several points in detail, including the government’s policy failures, the lack of adequate security measures, and the half-hearted actions taken against terrorists. He also highlighted how these failures have increased the threat of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, affecting the lives of local residents.
“The government needs to take solid and effective steps against terrorism to ensure the safety of the general public,” Charangoo urged. He appealed to the government to take the issue of terrorism seriously and develop a comprehensive policy for its eradication.
Charangoo asserted that there is no difference between the terrorism in Kashmir and Jammu, stating, “Their ideology is the same.” He also criticized the government for its inaction following pro-Pakistan speeches, including those of Imran Khan, during the recent Lok Sabha elections in Baramulla. Charangoo questioned, “What action did the Government of India take against these issues?”
He lambasted the government for claiming normalcy due to the peaceful Kheer Bhawani Yatra, adding, “It has been going smoothly for a long time, even before Modi was in power.”
Charangoo also expressed concern about the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, stating that the increasing terrorist attacks pose a significant challenge to the safety of the pilgrims. The yatra, which attracts thousands of devotees annually, requires stringent security measures, and Charangoo’s statement has heightened public anxiety about the potential risks involved.
Charangoo’s allegations have stirred political circles and increased pressure on the central government to review its approach to tackling terrorism. His comments have also raised concerns about the security of the Amarnath Yatra, emphasizing the need for the government to ensure robust safety measures for the pilgrims. It remains to be seen how the government will respond and what actions it will take to address these pressing issues.
