New Districts Committee meets Local Leaders from Turtuk and Bogdang
Turtuk, November 9, 2024: The New Districts Committee, led by Sh. Pramod Kumar Jain, IAS (Retd.), continued its tour of Nubra Valley, meeting with leaders and residents of Turtuk and Bogdang blocks. The Committee aims to gather insights on establishing Nubra as a new district in Ladakh.
During the visit, the Committee met with Executive Councillor, Nambardars, Councillors, and other key representatives of Turtuk and Bogdang blocks. Community members expressed appreciation for the Government of India’s initiative to establish Nubra as a district, with Diskit as the proposed district headquarters. Many attendees voiced their gratitude, viewing this step as a promising opportunity for growth and development in the remote region.
In Bogdang, the Nambardar raised a request to rename “Turtuk Block” as “Chorbad-Bogdang Block” to reflect the significance of Bogdang region within the block, ensuring fair representation. Leaders from Turtuk highlighted village’s historical importance, especially its role during the 1971 war, and emphasized the need for initiatives that would benefit the people of the region.
Several priority issues were presented to the Committee such as request for improvement in Healthcare and education was made. The residents also called for the allotment of ALC certificates for border area residents recognizing their role in national defense. They also advocated for a new subdivision dedicated to the Bogdang-Turtuk area, and reiterated their support for Diskit as the district headquarters, which would be easily accessible to residents. The community emphasized the need for a degree college in Turtuk to support higher education for local youth.
Executive Councillor, Gulam Medhi, highlighted region’s skilled populace and requested an ITI institute in Turtuk to further develop local talent and provide vocational vocational training opportunities.
Nambardar Tyakshi expressed his gratitude to the Government of India for designating Tyakshi as a “Vibrant Village” and supported the proposal to establish the district headquarters in Diskit.
The Executive Councillor of the LAHDC Leh Turtuk Constituency Sh. Gulam Medhi, thanked the Ministry of Home Affairs and other officials involved in granting Nubra as a district status. He also called for preserving heritage homes and establishing a meeting point for families separated during the 1971 war.
Sh. Pramod Kumar Jain congratulated the people of Nubra Valley on the establishment of the new district and praised the unity and pride exhibited by the communities. He encouraged them to continue their dedication to the nation’s development and progress. Committee member Sh. Kacho Asfandyar Khan extended his congratulations to Turtuk residents and highlighted the importance of preserving the Balti culture, which is a unique asset to both Ladakh and India.
The Committee members assured a fair and comprehensive assessment to address the needs and aspirations of the Nubra Valley.
