New Districts Committee Meets Local Leaders from Panamik, Khemi, Kobet, Sumoor and other villages.
Panamik, November 10, 2024: The New Districts Committee, led by Sh. Pramod Kumar Jain, IAS (Retd.), met with residents and leaders from Panamik, Khemi, Kobet, Sumoor and other villages in Nubra Valley. The visit aimed to gather feedback on establishing Nubra as a new district in Ladakh.
Councillor Tsering Sangdup welcomed the committee and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Home Affairs for granting district status to Nubra Valley. He highlighted regional challenges particularly in the Panamik and Siachen Tiger Belt.
During the meeting, he emphasized the need for a Mini Secretariat block for people to have easy accessibility to various departments. He also raised concerns about lack of infrastructure, such as bridges which force people to take long routes to reach Diskit and other parts of Nubra Valley.
Nambardar of Sumoor, Mr Yagson requested Sub-Divisional status for Sumoor/Panamik. Additionally, the Block Development Council Panamik suggested creating four new Panchayats to improve local governance in the region. Local leaders and committee members pressed on the need for better infrastructure and connectivity.
Ex-Councillor Charasa raised concerns about the lack of a bridge leading to travel hardships and loss of life. He also requested to establish an SDM office in Charasa.
Women from Charasa voiced their concerns about poor road condition and healthcare facilities. They also requested for swift construction of bridge to improve connectivity within the valley.
Chairman Sh. Pramod Kumar Jain assured the residents and local leaders of the committee’s impartial approach. Committee member Sh. Tsering Angchuk (IAS) reinforced committee’s goal of making a fair and development-based decision. He also encouraged youth of Nubra to focus on skill development opportunities.
In closing remarks, Sh. Jain reiterated the committee’s commitment to consider all feedback carefully and selecting a suitable location for the new district headquarters. He also stressed on prioritizing peace and prosperity while focusing on connectivity, infrastructure and other developments.
