Motor Vehicle Theft Gang Busted in Jammu: Over ₹1 Crore Worth of Stolen Vehicles Recovered

Jammu – In a significant breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have dismantled a motor vehicle theft gang operating across the East and South subdivisions of the South Zone of Jammu District. The operation, conducted under the codename *Operation Avatar*, led to the recovery of 20 stolen vehicles worth over ₹1 crore. The police have arrested two key suspects in connection with the case, with further investigations and potential arrests underway.
The Case Unfolds
The investigation began following two separate complaints lodged at the Bahu Fort police station:
1.Case FIR No. 268/2024: Complainant Pritam Singh reported the theft of his scooty (Reg. No. JK08 E 4106) on 25 October 2024.
2.Case FIR No. 285/2024: Complainant Suraj Kumar reported the theft of his Bullet motorcycle (Reg. No. JK02 CQ 0992) on 6 November 2024.
Based on these complaints, a specialized investigation team was formed under the leadership of SDPO East DySP Sheezan Bhat and SDPO South Kartik Shrotriya, with overall supervision by SP South Ajay Sharma and SSP Jammu Joginder Singh.
Investigation Techniques
The team employed a range of advanced techniques, including:
– Technical analysis of mobile data.
– Scrutiny of CCTV footage from the theft locations.
– Profiling and pattern analysis of suspects.
This effort led to the identification and arrest of two suspects:
– Dheeraj Singh, son of Deepak Singh, resident of Kanji House Gummat, Jammu.
-Hem Raj, son of Hans Raj, resident of Ramkote, Kathua.
During interrogation, both suspects confessed to their involvement in multiple vehicle thefts. Their disclosures facilitated the recovery of a wide range of stolen vehicles.
Recovered Vehicles:
The recovered vehicles include:
– Two trucks, including one with Reg. No. JK02 AH 3711.
– Two-wheelers , including Splendor, Platina, Hero Honda, Bullet, and Yamaha FZ motorcycles, as well as Activa and other scooties.
– A Safari car (Reg. No. JK02 AH 9110) and a Zen car.
The recovered vehicles’ approximate total value exceeds ₹1 crore. A full list of vehicles has been documented, and efforts are ongoing to link them to their rightful owners.
