Lok Sabha elections: PM Modi says Congress “manufacturing lies” during Maharashtra campaign.
Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the opposition Congress, saying that the party is “manufacturing lies” because it cannot rival the developmental achievements of the BJP government.
During a public gathering in Maharashtra’s Nandurbar, PM Modi criticized Congress’ stance on reservation. He accused the Congress of attempting to divert reservation benefits meant for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes to Muslims under the guise of minority welfare.
PM Modi said that for the past 17 days, he has been challenging the Congress, asking them to commit in writing that they will not dilute reservation benefits for SC, ST, and OBC communities by earmarking a share for Muslims, yet they have not responded.
“It is merely a cheap ploy of appeasement, a tactic of vote bank politics. The Congress’s silence on my challenge indicates they have a hidden agenda,” he said.
“For me, serving the deprived and Adivasis is just like serving my own family. I don’t belong to a royal family like that of Congress; I come from a humble background. I have grown up in poverty. I can completely understand what suffering feels like. I can understand your pain,” PM Modi said.
Maharashtra, with its 48 Lok Sabha seats, is the second-largest contributor to the lower house of Parliament. The general elections is being conducted in five phases across the state – April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, and May 20.
