Leh, December 7, 2024: In a step towards ensuring environmental sustainability Ladakh Pollution Control Committee Leh (LPCC) organised an awareness programme on Plastic Waste, e-Waste and Solid Waste Management Rules.
The programme focuses on educating the community about the environmental hazard posed by improper disposal of plastic waste, e-waste and solid waste etc. It emphasised the importance of recycling and adopting eco-friendly practices to reduce the footprint.
The LPCC in an endeavour to discourage the use of non-woven carry bags, distributed jute bags and other IEC materials among the participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Mandeep Mittal, IFS, the Regional Director-LPCC emphasized the public about the ill effects of plastic waste and importance of recycling it. District Officer – LPCC Leh Ruksana Parveen urged the audience to manage and dispose the e-Waste as per the e-Waste Management Rules-2016. She stressed the need to raise awareness and foster collective responsibility which are crucial to addressing the problem of e-waste.
The President Women’s Alliance of Ladakh (WAL) underscored the audience about the steps they had taken to ban polythene carry bag in Ladakh. Speaking on the occasion the President Merchant Association Leh, urged the need to stop the entry of Single Use Plastic items into Ladakh. President Ama Tsokspa (Sankar, Housing Colony, Anjumam Moinul- Islam, Anjuman Imamia) Leh also briefed the audience on the steps they have taken to eliminate the Single Use Plastic item (Cup, plate etc.) during functions, parties, religious gatherings and other occasions.
