Pilibhit : In a significant breakthrough against cross-border terrorism, three suspected Khalistani terrorists linked to the Pakistan-sponsored Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) were killed early today in an encounter with a joint team of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh Police in the Puranpur area of Pilibhit. Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, hailed the operation as a major success in dismantling the terror network responsible for recent grenade attacks in Punjab.
The Encounter Unfolds:
The operation began after reliable intelligence suggested that the suspects had fled to Pilibhit following a grenade attack on the Bakshiwala police post in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district on December 18. The attackers, identified as Varinder Singh alias Ravi (23), Gurvinder Singh (25), and Jashanpreet Singh alias Partap Singh (18), opened fire on police teams upon confrontation. The ensuing gunfight resulted in the trio sustaining severe injuries, and despite being rushed to the CHC Puranpur for treatment, they succumbed to their wounds.
Weapons seized from the suspects included two AK-47 rifles, two Glock pistols, and a substantial cache of ammunition, according to Additional Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police, Amitabh Yash.
Unraveling the Pakistan-Sponsored Network:
Preliminary investigations revealed that the KZF module was orchestrated by Pakistan-based Ranjeet Singh Nita, with operations managed by Greece-based Jaswinder Singh Mannu. Varinder Singh alias Ravi, a native of Agwan village in Kalanaur, led the module locally, with further directives allegedly issued by UK-based Jagjeet Singh, who also served in the British Army and operated under the alias Fateh Singh Baghi.
In a statement on social media, DGP Yadav confirmed, “This module is controlled by Ranjeet Singh Neeta… It is further controlled by Jagjeet Singh, based in the UK and serving in the British Army. Jagjeet Singh used the identity of Fateh Singh Baghi.”
Punjab Reels Under a Spate of Blasts:
This encounter comes in the wake of three grenade attacks in Punjab this month, with incidents reported at the Islamabad police station in Amritsar on December 17 and the Asron police post in Nawanshahr on December 2. Although no injuries were reported in these incidents, they highlight the escalating threats to Punjab’s security.
Congress MP Sukhjinder Randhawa expressed grave concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, alleging a conspiracy to destabilize Punjab. “Industries are leaving, youth are fleeing, and drones are ferrying RDX into Punjab. The state police seem powerless before these threats,” Randhawa stated. He also criticized the Central Government for its alleged indifference, claiming that repeated requests for discussions on national security issues were ignored by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Political and Security Ramifications:
Punjab’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Border Range, Satinder Singh, detailed the meticulous planning behind the joint operation, emphasizing the coordinated efforts of Gurdaspur and Pilibhit police. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gurdaspur, Harish Dayama, assured that further investigations are underway to uncover the module’s full extent, promising more arrests and recoveries in the coming days.
The encounter underscores the ongoing proxy war waged by Pakistan through terror outfits like KZF, using Punjab as a battleground. The success of the operation not only eliminates an imminent threat but also exposes the broader nexus of international conspirators attempting to destabilize India.
While the elimination of the three terrorists is a significant achievement, it also raises critical questions about the security and political stability in Punjab. As investigations continue, the state and central governments face mounting pressure to address the rising challenges of cross-border terrorism and the protection of Punjab’s peace and prosperity.
