JAMMU: In a decisive move aimed at tightening the noose around criminals and absconders, the Jammu Police, under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, has initiated stringent action against a notorious absconder, Mohd Asgar alias Tola, son of Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Chowadhi, Jammu. Asgar, a history-sheeter wanted under the Public Safety Act (PSA), had been evading arrest for a long time, despite a warrant issued by the District Magistrate (DM) of Jammu.
Mohd Asgar, well-known in police records at Channi Himmat Police Station, was wanted under several criminal cases. His deliberate avoidance of the law prompted the Jammu Police to intensify efforts to bring him to justice. Acting on the recommendations of the DM Jammu, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Jammu issued proclamation proceedings as per Sections 12(a) and 12(b) of the Public Safety Act, 1978. The proclamation demands that Asgar surrender to the competent authorities within a period of 30 days, failing which the court will proceed with further legal actions.
In line with the court’s directive, a notice was formally served to Asgar’s family members. Additionally, a joint team from Police Station Channi Himmat, under the supervision of the SP South Ajay Sharma and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) City East Jammu Sheezan Bhat , took the significant step of publicly posting the proclamation at prominent locations in Chowadhi. This measure was meant to make the absconder’s evasion known to the public and ensure he cannot continue to elude law enforcement.
This crackdown is not just about one individual but is part of a larger effort by the Jammu Police to ensure compliance with the law, particularly for those wanted under the PSA. This move comes as a strong deterrent against criminals who believe they can remain beyond the reach of justice. The police have made it clear that no one, not even hardened criminals or absconders, will be able to defy the law with impunity.
The police action has received widespread support from the local population, with residents of Chowadhi and citizens across Jammu commending the authorities for taking a firm stance against lawbreakers. Netizens have also praised the Jammu Police on social media, lauding the initiative as an essential step in maintaining law and order in the region.
The timing of this move is particularly significant, coming in accordance with the directives of the Election Commission of India. The commission has instructed state law enforcement agencies to take punitive action against absconders and other criminal elements, particularly in the run-up to elections. This is seen as part of broader efforts to ensure a fair and peaceful election process by removing potential threats posed by those evading justice.
As the clock ticks for Mohd Asgar to surrender, the message from the Jammu Police is clear: criminals can no longer hide. The authorities are determined to ensure that the writ of the law prevails, sending a strong signal to all absconders that their time on the run is swiftly running out.
