Jammu : Concerned over the recent surge in gangster activities, robberies, vehicle thefts, and drug-related crimes, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma (IPS), convened an emergency high-level meeting at District Police Lines (DPL), Jammu. The meeting saw the participation of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh (JKPS), SP North, SP South, SP Headquarters, SP Rural, SP Operations, all DySPs, SDPOs, and officials from intelligence agencies.
The primary agenda was to formulate a comprehensive action plan to eradicate criminal networks, ensure public safety, and restore Jammu’s peaceful environment.
Full-Scale Crackdown on Gangsters and Organized Crime
DIG Sharma set strict directives for an all-out war against gangsters, vehicle lifters, drug peddlers, and anti-social elements. Key instructions included:
• Compiling an updated list of all identified criminals operating in the region.
• Tracking and dismantling financial networks that support criminal activities, including illegal businesses, extortion, land grabbing, and unauthorized property dealings.
• Seizing properties and assets acquired through criminal proceeds.
• Legal action against individuals providing shelter, vehicles, or financial aid to criminals.
“We will not allow gangsters and their network to thrive in Jammu. We will choke their financial resources, dismantle their operations, and ensure strict legal action against their supporters,” said DIG Sharma.
‘Zero Tolerance’ for Crime: Stronger Surveillance and Intelligence Coordination
Emphasizing the need for aggressive policing, the DIG directed officers to:
• Strengthen police checkpoints (nakas) at all sensitive locations.
• Enhance coordination with intelligence agencies, Army, paramilitary forces, and central agencies to share real-time inputs and track criminal movements.
• Identify and closely monitor Over-Ground Workers (OGWs), history-sheeters, and habitual offenders.
“We will keep Jammu safe by ensuring a robust security system and maintaining real-time intelligence exchange,” he assured.
Social Media and News Platforms Warned Against Glorifying Gangsters:
A strong warning was issued against glorification of criminals on social media, news portals, and television interviews.
• Legal action will be taken against any individual, influencer, or media platform promoting gangsters.
• Parents and families of notorious criminals were warned against harboring fugitives, or they will face police action.
• The media fraternity was urged to support law enforcement by exposing criminal networks instead of providing them a platform.
“Social media has become a tool for criminals to glorify their actions. This stops today. Legal action will be initiated against anyone promoting gangsters in any form,” said DIG Sharma.
4. Special Police Operations Launched for Crime Prevention
To ensure a systematic and targeted crackdown, DIG Sharma launched multiple operations across the JSK Range:
• Operation Cleanup – Targeting gangsters, criminals, and their networks.
• Operation Sanjeevani – Focused on eradicating drug peddling and narcotics supply chains.

• Operation Third Eye – Enhanced surveillance using CCTV cameras and informant networks.
• Operation Meghdoot – Strengthening intelligence gathering and coordination.
“These operations will be executed with full force, ensuring that crime rates drop significantly in the coming months,” DIG Sharma declared.
Massive Drive Against Illegal Vehicles and Modifications:
DIG Sharma also ordered an immediate crackdown on illegally modified vehicles, often used in criminal activities. The following violations will face strict legal action:
• Vehicles with tinted glasses (as per the Motor Vehicles Act).
• Illegal modifications that give a ‘gangster look’.
• Vehicles playing loud music, causing disturbance.
• Unregistered vehicles or those without number plates.
“Criminals use modified vehicles as a status symbol. This will no longer be tolerated. We will take strict legal action against anyone found violating vehicle laws,” he added.
