JAMMU: A joint patrolling exercise was conducted along the Indo-Pak border in the Pargwal sector, Jammu, under the leadership of DIG Jammu-Kathua-Samba (JKS) Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, accompanied by SSP Jammu Joginder Singh, SP Rural Brijesh, and SDPO Domana Mudassir Ahmed. The exercise was carried out in close coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police units.
1.Border Patrolling and Security Grid Review :
The team inspected the security and border management grid along the critical “Chicken Neck” area, which is strategically sensitive due to its geography and proximity to Pakistan. Villages including Gardkhal, Malabella, Sohan, and Kanachak were included in the review. The inspection involved checks of nallahs, rivers, canals, and the Sua, which are potential infiltration routes.
2.Community Outreach for Enhanced Cooperation :
As part of the exercise, the officials interacted with local villagers to foster police-public cooperation. Emphasis was placed on timely sharing of information related to suspicious activities and potential security threats. This engagement aimed to build trust and ensure that the community remains a proactive partner in maintaining peace and security in the area.
3.Focus on Infiltration Prevention:
Special attention was given to vulnerable spots along the Chenab River, a known challenge for border management due to its dynamic terrain. Security measures to prevent cross-border infiltration, smuggling, and illegal crossings were evaluated.
4.Strengthening Coordination with BSF:
The joint exercise reinforced inter-agency collaboration, with the police and BSF jointly analyzing the existing security setup and identifying areas for improvement. This collaboration is crucial in maintaining vigilance along the border, especially in regions prone to trans-border threats.
Significance of the Exercise:
Strategic Importance:The Chicken Neck area is a narrow corridor that connects Jammu with the rest of the country. Its strategic importance makes it a frequent target for infiltration attempts, necessitating a robust security grid.
Public Safety and Trust Building:By engaging with the local population, the exercise highlighted the role of communities in enhancing security. Residents were encouraged to act as the “eyes and ears” of the administration, ensuring a swift response to any untoward incident.
Proactive Border Management:The review of natural waterways and terrain features demonstrates a proactive approach to plugging gaps in security infrastructure, ensuring preparedness against infiltration attempts.
The joint patrolling and security review led by DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma, along with SSP Joginder Singh and other senior officers, underscores the Jammu Police’s commitment to safeguarding the region. With enhanced police-public cooperation and robust inter-agency coordination, the security grid in the Pargwal sector is poised to address emerging challenges effectively.
