Jammu : — In a determined effort to combat the drug menace, the Jammu & Kashmir Police under Operation Sanjeevani conducted intensive raids in the Rajeev Nagar and Valmiki Colony areas of South Zone, Jammu. These areas, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bahu Fort and Police Station Gandhi Nagar, have been identified as significant drug hotspots.

The operation was spearheaded by SP South Jammu, Ajay Sharma, with active participation from SDPO East Sheezan Bhat , SDPO South Kartik Shrotriya , and officers from the concerned police stations. The raid saw the deployment of multiple police teams who conducted thorough checks of pedestrians and vehicles to identify and apprehend individuals involved in drug peddling and smuggling.

SP South Ajay Sharma emphasized the importance of such operations in the larger strategy to eradicate drug-related activities in the region. “Our goal is to dismantle the networks that facilitate drug smuggling and peddling, ensuring a safer environment for our community,” Sharma stated.

In addition to the raids, the police organized a counselling session for residents, particularly targeting the youth of Rajeev Nagar and Valmiki Colony. This session aimed to educate the community about the severe consequences of drug abuse and the importance of staying away from illicit substances. Health professionals and social workers were brought in to engage with the community, providing insights into the physical, psychological, and social impacts of drug addiction.

Operation Sanjeevani is part of a broader initiative by the Jammu & Kashmir Police to address the growing drug problem in the region. Previous operations have seen significant successes, including the recent booking of notorious drug peddlers under the PIT NDPS Act. The ongoing efforts reflect a comprehensive approach involving law enforcement, community engagement, and awareness campaigns.

The local populace has expressed their gratitude for the police’s proactive stance against drug peddling. Residents have reported a heightened sense of security and optimism about the future of their neighborhoods. “The police are doing a commendable job in ensuring our areas are safe from the clutches of drug dealers,” said a local resident.

The police have assured that the crackdown will continue with the same intensity. Further operations are planned, focusing on both urban and rural areas where drug activities are suspected. The sustained efforts aim to create a long-term impact, reducing drug availability and addiction rates in the region.
