Jammu and Kashmir Government Declares Paid Holidays for Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Banks to Remain Closed.
In a significant move ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, through the General Administration Department (GAD), has announced paid holidays for specific parliamentary constituencies on key polling dates. This decision, impacting various districts across the state, is set to facilitate maximum voter turnout and participation in the democratic process.
According to the notification issued by the GAD, the following dates have been designated as paid holidays in their respective parliamentary constituencies:
- **Udhampur** – 19th April (Friday)
- **Jammu** – 26th April (Friday)
- **Anantnag-Rajouri** – 7th May (Tuesday)
- **Srinagar** – 13th May (Monday)
- **Baramulla** – 20th May (Monday)
The declaration of paid holidays extends under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. This legal provision mandates the closure of all banks on the aforementioned polling dates in the specified constituencies. Consequently, banking services will be suspended to accommodate the electoral process; ensuring citizens have the opportunity to cast their votes without inconvenience.
The directive underscores the government’s commitment to promoting civic engagement and enabling citizens to exercise their democratic rights unhindered. By providing paid leave and aligning with banking closures, authorities aim to facilitate widespread participation in the Lok Sabha elections across Jammu and Kashmir.
This initiative not only emphasizes the importance of electoral participation but also reflects the state’s proactive approach towards fostering a robust and inclusive democratic culture. With these measures in place, officials anticipate a robust voter turnout and heightened enthusiasm during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the region.
