IGP Kashmir Chairs Annual Crime Review Meeting at PCR Kashmir, Reviews Law & Order and Investigation Standards

Srinagar:Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Shri V.K. Birdi, IPS, on Thursday chaired the Annual Crime Review Meeting of the Kashmir Zone at the Police Control Room (PCR), Kashmir. The high-level meeting was attended by all Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), District Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of the Kashmir Zone, JDP ZPHQ, and other senior police officers.
During the meeting, the participating officers briefed the IGP Kashmir on the overall crime scenario across the Kashmir Zone, outlining measures taken for crime prevention and improvements made in the quality of investigations. Detailed discussions were held on general crime as well as cases registered under special laws, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), terror-related and terror-financing cases, property attachment in UAPA cases, preventive detentions under the Public Safety Act (PSA), NDPS and narco-terror cases, and cases under the POCSO Act.
The meeting also reviewed the status of preventive actions, pending inquest proceedings, and efforts made towards the arrest of absconding accused. District SSPs made district-wise presentations highlighting crime prevention initiatives, registration of FIRs and e-FIRs, progress of investigations, and disposal of cases within their respective jurisdictions.
IGP Kashmir appreciated the efforts of district heads in controlling crime and maintaining law and order. He emphasized the need to further strengthen the quality of investigations and underlined the importance of improving conviction rates through professional investigation, effective use of scientific and forensic tools, and a strong follow-up (pairvi) mechanism, especially in narcotics and terror-related cases.
He directed officers to develop a robust and result-oriented framework to ensure successful convictions in NDPS and UAPA cases, with the aim of dismantling the narco-criminal and terror ecosystem. The IGP also reviewed the status of preventive measures and stressed the timely completion of pending inquest proceedings.
Issuing clear and time-bound directions, Shri V.K. Birdi focused on enhancing accountability, improving investigation standards, strengthening prosecution, and ensuring the speedy disposal of cases. He instructed district heads to organize regular capacity-building workshops for investigating officers to enhance their professional competence and legal understanding, with increased use of information technology in investigations.
Special emphasis was laid on NDPS cases to reduce pendency in drug-related offences. The IGP further directed district SSPs to take a proactive leadership role by personally monitoring investigations and chairing periodic crime review meetings at the district level.
Concluding the meeting, IGP Kashmir reaffirmed the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the expeditious delivery of justice, reiterating that effective policing remains central to public safety and the overall well-being of society.
