IGP Jammu Chairs Zonal Crime Review Meeting, Calls for Tech-Driven Policing & Zero Tolerance on Drugs

Jammu : In a bid to strengthen crime prevention strategies and law enforcement mechanisms, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone, Sh. Bhim Sen Tuti, IPS, chaired the monthly Zonal Crime Review Meeting in Jammu. The high-level meeting saw the participation of senior police officials, including Range DIsG, District SSsP, SSP Special Operations & Trainings ZPHQ Jammu, SP Operations Jammu, Chief Prosecution Officer, Sr. PO, and I/C Crime Section ZPHQ Jammu. Special invitee, IG Crime J&K, Sh. Sunil Gupta, IPS, also attended the session, emphasizing the significance of new criminal laws in effective policing.
The meeting served as a platform to assess crime trends, review pending investigations, and strategize enhanced law enforcement practices across the Jammu Zone. A key focus was placed on dismantling drug networks, integrating technology into crime detection, and ensuring compliance with newly introduced legal frameworks.
Crackdown on Drug Networks & Crime Against Vulnerable Sections:
IGP Jammu directed district SSPs to intensify efforts against drug trafficking, urging them to:
• Adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards drug peddling.
• Disrupt supply chains and dismantle organized drug networks at all levels.
• Increase patrolling and surveillance in drug-prone areas.
• Strengthen enforcement of the NDPS Act, ensuring swift action against repeat offenders.
• Monitor inter-state drug routes to curb trafficking activities.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted the importance of expediting investigations, particularly in cases concerning crimes against women, children, and marginalized communities. Officers were instructed to ensure strict adherence to legal procedures and faster case resolutions.
Leveraging Technology for Smart Policing:
A significant portion of the discussion revolved around modernizing policing methods through AI-driven crime mapping, digital forensics, and precision-based policing techniques. Officers were urged to:
• Use AI and data analytics for crime pattern analysis to predict and prevent offenses.
• Enhance cyber forensics to tackle cybercrime and digital fraud.
• Strictly adhere to investigation timelines, ensuring no backlog of pending cases.
Focus on Implementation of New Criminal Laws:
IG Crime J&K, Sh. Sunil Gupta, IPS, underlined the importance of seamlessly incorporating the newly enacted criminal laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)—into police investigations, case documentation, and judicial proceedings. The training and adaptation of police personnel to these new laws were identified as a top priority.
DGP J&K Calls for Higher Conviction Rates & Stronger Security Grid:
Later, Director General of Police (DGP) J&K, Sh. Nalin Prabhat, IPS, joined the meeting, emphasizing:
• Enhancing conviction rates through meticulous investigations and prosecution.
• Streamlining investigations with intelligence-driven policing.
• Strengthening operational preparedness for tackling both urban and rural crimes.
• Ensuring swift legal action against offenders to uphold public trust in law enforcement.
The Zonal Crime Review Meeting underscored the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s commitment to proactive policing, enhanced law enforcement, and seamless legal integration.
