Jammu: In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Janipur police, under the leadership of SHO Inspector Vikram Sharma, arrested notorious drug peddler Mahaveer Singh, alias Abbu, and three accomplices near Roop Nagar. The operation, based on specific intelligence, exposed a sprawling drug network that has long been a menace to the region.
Swift Action Leads to Recovery:
The police team apprehended Mahaveer and his associates—Nitan Goria, Amitpal Singh, and Shallu Sharma—as they were handling and consuming heroin in a concealed area. The suspects attempted to flee but were intercepted by the alert team. A thorough search led to the recovery of approximately 5 grams of heroin from Mahaveer, along with aluminum foil and other drug paraphernalia from his accomplices.
An FIR No. 05/2025 under the NDPS Act has been registered at Janipur Police Station, and investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s operations.
A Chronic Offender and Key Syndicate Member:
Mahaveer Singh, a habitual offender with a history of drug-related crimes, has previously been named in four FIRs under the NDPS Act. His arrest is part of a broader crackdown against drug syndicates in Jammu, with this operation marking the 11th FIR related to drug offenses in just 21 days. The syndicate, targeting vulnerable youth, has been a significant contributor to the region’s drug abuse crisis.
A Coordinated Effort Against Drugs:
Senior officers, including SP City North Vivek Shekhar (JKPS) and SSP Jammu Joginder Singh (JKPS), are supervising the investigation to ensure the syndicate’s complete dismantling. Efforts are focused on identifying and seizing properties acquired through drug proceeds, ensuring that no one involved in the illicit trade escapes accountability.
The Syndicate’s Web:
The arrest of Mahaveer Singh has shed light on a larger network of drug syndicates in the region. Other individuals under investigation include SgCt Mohd Mukhtiyar, his wives Nagris Bhat and Parveen Akhtar, along with Karamjeet @ Chamkor, Sandeep Nirala, Farzan Shah, Vikas Manni with wife Tanu Mehra, Vishav Sharma @ Vishu, and Vinod Kumar @ Kuda. These individuals have been preying on students and youth, spreading addiction and despair in their wake.
Public Commendation for Police Efforts:
The police’s crackdown has been met with widespread public appreciation. Concerned parents, worried about the safety of their children—especially those attending tuition classes or living in hostels—have lauded the Janipur police for their decisive action. The success of the operation reflects the department’s commitment to protecting the community and eradicating the drug menace.
A Message of Resilience and Hope:
The arrest of Mahaveer Singh and his associates sends a strong signal: drug abuse and peddling will not be tolerated. By targeting not only the peddlers but also their financial networks, the Jammu police are ensuring that the syndicate’s ill-gotten gains are stripped away.
This operation is a testament to the police’s resolve to safeguard the region’s youth and create a drug-free society. The community stands united with the law enforcement agencies in their mission to eliminate the scourge of drug abuse and pave the way for a brighter, safer future.
