India is set to host the inaugural Global Media Dialogue (GMD) as part of WAVES 2025 in Mumbai on May 2, a landmark event organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting with support from the Ministry of External Affairs. The Dialogue will bring together delegates from over 60 countries, including the UK, Japan, Russia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and others, represented at ministerial and senior official levels, marking a significant step in positioning India at the forefront of global media and entertainment discourse.
The GMD aims to foster international collaboration, promote best practices, and explore policy alignment, talent exchange, and capacity building in the media sector. A key outcome will be the ‘WAVES Declaration,’ a commitment by participating nations to strengthen global cooperation and lay the foundation for future partnerships in media and entertainment. With its vibrant media ecosystem and booming entertainment industry, India is poised to lead these conversations, highlighting media’s role in shaping societies, economies, and international relations.
The Dialogue will facilitate open discussions on the rapidly evolving media landscape, driven by technological advancements, shifting content trends, and growing global interconnectedness. It will serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and perspectives on fostering innovation and cooperation in the sector.
On the sidelines of WAVES 2025, India is conducting bilateral meetings with over 10 countries, including the UK, Russia, Indonesia, Kenya, Bhutan, and Egypt, as well as international organizations like the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). These engagements underscore India’s commitment to building robust global partnerships.
The event will feature prominent Indian leaders, including External Affairs Minister Dr. S.
