First Lady Smt Neelam Mishra Convenes Meeting with Nambardars of Leh Town to Discuss Cleanliness and Women Empowerment
Leh, Oct 21, 2024: First Lady Smt. Neelam Mishra convened a meeting with four Nambardars from the Upper and Lower Leh areas to address pressing issues related to the cleanliness of Leh Town and women empowerment. Under Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Ms Sumera Shafi, JKAS; Nambardars from Leh town and representative from Municipal Committee were present during the meeting.
First Lady emphasized her unwavering commitment to making Leh a cleaner and more sustainable city. She highlighted the importance of implementing effective waste management practices, including the segregation of tetra packs, wrappers, paper and medical waste for recycling. She stressed the need for cleanliness initiatives at the village/town level, fostering a sense of community responsibility and environmental stewardship.
In addition to environmental concerns, First Lady discussed the critical issue of water conservation. She stressed the importance of minimizing reliance on borewells to ensure the long-term sustainability of Leh’s water resources.
Women’s empowerment was another key topic of discussion. First Lady sought suggestions from Nambardars on empowering local women through self-help groups, community initiatives, and other means. She expressed her keen interest in promoting women’s economic independence and participation in the development of Leh.
The Nambardars also took the opportunity to present their concerns and challenges to First Lady, including issues related to water supply, road infrastructure, and other pressing matters affecting the region.
First Lady assured the Nambardars of her unwavering support and commitment to addressing these issues. She emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between the government, local communities, and stakeholders to achieve a cleaner, more sustainable, and empowered Leh.
