First Lady Neelam Mishra visits Sakhi Ama Tsogspa in Marstelang
Leh, Dec 30, 2024: The First Lady of Ladakh, Smt Neelam Mishra visited the Sakhi Ama Tsogspa at Matselang where she visited the site where biodegradable sanitary pads are produced. She also met and interacted with members of Sakhi Ama Tsogspa.
Commending the members of Sakhi Ama Tsogspa and Swati Pandey for taking the initiative of coming up with biodegradable sanitary pads at a very affordable price, the First Lady highlighted the serious health risks involved with poor menstrual hygiene and the importance of using sanitary pads for menstrual hygiene. Stating that women empowerment is one of her main objectives, the First Lady announced the procurement of 100 biodegradable pads to boost the morale of the Sakhi Ama Tsogspa members.
Nambardar, Martselang, Skalzang Dadul also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the role played by the Sakhi Ama Tsogspa in empowering women of Martselang village.
It was informed that Sakhi, a project initiated under Operation Sadbhavana, commenced on September 21 2024 under the chairmanship of FWO Trishul AWWA, Swati Pandey. The production of biodegradable sanitary pads commenced on the same date. Around 2041 sanitary pads have been produced to date, out of which some have been sold and some have been distributed among school and college students as free samples. It was informed that there are 26 members in Sakhi Ama Tsogspa.
Members of Sakhi Ama Tsogspa informed the First Lady about the process of making biodegradable sanitary pads. The First Lady was also informed about the sanitary pad vending machine from which interested can procure sanitary pad by inserting a Rs 5 coin.
The members of Sakhi Ama Tsogspa also came up with cultural performances for guests.
Villagers, Army officials and other officials were present during the occasion.
