Srinagar : In a candid interaction, National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah emphasized the critical need for harmony between the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir government, underlining that cooperation, not confrontation, is the key to resolving the region’s pressing issues.
Both the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir government must work together rather than engaging in conflicts, Dr. Abdullah stated during his visit to Jammu, firmly rooting his stance in a vision for development and progress.
Responding to Internal Criticism:
When asked about recent remarks by NC MP Aga Ruhullah, who suggested that Omar Abdullah risked being seen as a “Centre’s man,” Dr. Abdullah brushed aside the allegation, asserting Omar’s commitment to the people. Let him say what he thinks. But Omar Abdullah is the people’s Chief Minister. He is not working on anyone’s directives, he declared.
Farooq Abdullah further posed a rhetorical question to highlight the futility of confrontation: “Do you want that we should fight with the Centre? If we start fighting, how can we resolve people’s issues? How can we build schools and hospitals?”
A Balancing Act with the Centre:
The NC president reiterated that while his party does not align with the BJP, maintaining a constructive relationship with the Centre is imperative. “We are not with the BJP, but we have to work with the Centre government for the development of Jammu and Kashmir. Fighting with the Centre will only hinder progress,” he added, emphasizing the importance of governance over political rivalry.
Clarifying the BSF Commandant Controversy:
On the sidelines of his statements about cooperation, Dr. Abdullah also addressed the controversy surrounding a BSF Commandant accused in a paper scam who reportedly sought to join the National Conference. “I was not aware that he is accused in some case. He can’t join NC until he gets a clean chit,” the NC leader clarified, distancing the party from any association with tainted individuals.
A Call for Pragmatism:
Farooq Abdullah’s statements reflect a pragmatic approach, balancing criticism from within his party and external challenges. By advocating for collaboration over confrontation, he highlighted a path forward that focuses on the region’s development.
As political debates in Jammu and Kashmir continue to dominate headlines, Abdullah’s insistence on a cooperative stance underscores the need for unity in addressing the aspirations and challenges of the people of the region.
