Jammu: In light of recent terror threats and ongoing security concerns, the Jammu and Kashmir Police are intensifying their efforts to ensure the safety and security of the residents and visitors in the region. Following the directives of senior police officers, a comprehensive security assessment was conducted at Wavemall, one of Jammu’s busiest shopping centers.

The detailed security review was led by SP South, Ajay Sharma, JKPS, in collaboration with SDPO East, SHO Bahu Fort, and IC PP Narwal. The exercise, which took place from 4:15 PM to 7:20 PM, included a thorough evaluation of various security aspects within the mall premises. This initiative comes in response to the prevailing security scenario and aims to bolster the overall security framework in the area.

Key Areas of Security Review:

1.Perimeter Security: Ensuring the outer boundaries of the mall are secure from unauthorized access.

2.Parking Area Security and Management: Assessing the safety measures in the parking zones and how well they are managed.

3.Floor Security: Reviewing the security protocols on each floor of the mall.

4.Access Control: Evaluating the effectiveness of systems in place to control who enters and exits the mall.

5.Crowd Management and Evacuation: Planning and ensuring efficient management and evacuation procedures for large gatherings.

6.Response of Mall Security Personnel: Testing the alertness and preparedness of the mall’s security team.

7.Staff Briefings: Conducting briefings with all staff, including those in the cinema, to ensure everyone is aware of their roles in an emergency.

8.PA System Functionality: Checking the operational status of the public address system within the mall.

9.Fire Safety: Inspecting fire safety measures and preparedness for potential fire-related incidents.

The extensive security review involved the participation of all floor managers, the General Manager of Wavemall, the security head, in-charge of CCTV monitoring, parking in-charge, fire safety in-charge, and the person responsible for electric equipment and fittings. This collaborative effort was aimed at identifying and rectifying any potential security lapses.

Following the assessment, an interaction with the public present in the mall was conducted. The public expressed their appreciation for the proactive measures taken by the Jammu Police under the command of Dr. Vinod Kumar, IPS, SSP Jammu. Many acknowledged the increased sense of safety due to these stringent security checks and the visible police presence.

Current Security Situation:

The review comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir are experiencing heightened security threats. Recent terror incidents in the region have necessitated such stringent measures. The police force is on high alert, implementing various Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to prevent any untoward incidents. The efforts by the Jammu Police reflect a commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the security of all citizens.
