Pulwama : In a significant breakthrough, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district have uncovered a cache of IEDs and explosives, averting a potential disaster. The recovery was made during a coordinated operation involving the Pulwama police, Indian Army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The meticulous search operation, conducted on the intervening night of June 2 and 3, led to the neutralization of two high-profile Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commanders, Reyaz Ahmed Dar and Rayees Ahmed Dar. Both men, hailing from the villages of Sether Gund and Larve respectively, were killed in a fierce gunfight after they opened fire on the security forces.
The slain terrorists were identified as Reyaz Ahmed Dar and Rayees Ahmed Dar, both classified as category A militants. Their deaths have dealt a significant blow to the LeT’s operational capabilities in the region.
During the operation, authorities uncovered a network of over-ground workers (OGWs) who had been providing critical support to the terrorists. Bilal Ahmed Lone, Sajjad Ganie, and Shakir Bashir, all residents of Nihama, were arrested for harboring the terrorists and supplying them with logistics. Their capture has shed light on the intricate support systems that sustain militant activities in the region.
The investigation revealed that the terrorists had prepared and hidden IEDs in the orchards, a chilling reminder of the ongoing threats faced by the region. The explosives, packed in a plastic container with an active circuit trigger mechanism, weighed around six kilograms. These devices, found in the possession of Shakir Bashir, were subsequently destroyed in situ by the Pulwama police and the army, ensuring they could no longer pose a threat.
Further searches led to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 rounds, pistols, and other incriminating materials. The discovery underscores the extensive preparations made by the terrorists and the crucial role played by the OGWs.
In light of these developments, a case has been registered under section 307 IPC, 7/27 Arms Act, and sections 16, 18, 19, 20, and 38 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at Police Station Kakapora.
This operation highlights the relentless efforts of the security forces to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure the safety and security of the region. The successful neutralization of the LeT commanders and the seizure of explosives underscore the ongoing vigilance and coordination among the security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
As Pulwama breathes a sigh of relief, the security forces remain on high alert, committed to safeguarding the region from the ever-present threat of militancy.
