District Police Udhampur Intensifies Crackdown on Narcotics and Smuggling Activities: Major Arrests, Seizures, and Property Attachments in First Five Months of 2025

Udhampur : In a significant escalation of its anti-narcotics and anti-smuggling drive, the District Police of Udhampur has reported considerable achievements between January and May 2025, reflecting their sustained efforts to curb drug abuse and smuggling in the region.
Key Achievements (January to May 2025)
• Total Cases Registered: 44 cases related to narcotics and smuggling were officially recorded during the first quarter (January to March).
• Total Arrests Made: 62 individuals were apprehended, with 55 arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 7 under preventive detention laws (PIT NDPS/PSA).
• Vehicle Seizures: 16 vehicles used in criminal activities were seized.
• Seized Drug Value: The total black market value of pure contraband seized stood at ₹2.21 crore.
• Frozen Bank Accounts: 35 bank accounts belonging to drug peddlers were frozen, containing a cumulative total of ₹16,70,703.
• Convictions Secured: 20 cases resulted in convictions, with 27 persons being found guilty and sentenced.
• Pharmacy Violations: 4 pharmacy shops were seized for violating norms related to the sale of H1 drugs.
Property Attachments Under NDPS and Smuggling Cases
In addition to arrests and seizures, a substantial volume of property was attached under legal provisions to choke the financial roots of offenders.

Total Property Value Attached: ₹4.19 crore
This multi-pronged action plan demonstrates the Udhampur Police’s continued resolve to eliminate the drug menace and allied criminal networks. The strategic seizure of properties and financial assets is intended not just to penalize offenders but also to disrupt the economic backbone of narcotics syndicates. The crackdown on pharmacies misusing H1 drugs is also a noteworthy step to prevent the diversion of medicinal narcotics into illegal channels.
Summary of Contraband Seized:
A total of four types of contraband substances were recovered. These include 279.884 grams of heroin, valued at approximately ₹20,70,680; 1.106 grams of charas, worth around ₹3,31,800; 40 kilograms of poppy straw, estimated at ₹1,20,000; and 96 grams of ganja, valued at ₹9,60,000.
The total estimated black market value of the seized contraband is ₹2.21 crore.
