JAMMU: In a concerted effort to bolster security and strengthen ties with local communities, DIG Jammu-Kathua-Samba (JKS) Range, Sh. Shiv Kumar, IPS, embarked on a comprehensive tour of the Bajalta, Surinsar, Mansar, Manwal, and Domail areas today. The visit was marked by a series of engagements aimed at addressing public concerns, reviewing security measures, and enhancing vigilance along known infiltration routes.
Community Interaction and Public Grievance Redressal:
Throughout his visit, DIG Shiv Kumar prioritized direct communication with residents, listening to their problems and offering reassurances regarding their safety. He met with various community members, including local leaders and ordinary citizens, to understand the challenges they face in their day-to-day lives. The issues discussed ranged from security concerns to infrastructure needs, with the DIG assuring prompt action and support from the police department.
DIG Shiv Kumar emphasized the significance of community involvement in maintaining peace and security, urging residents to act as the eyes and ears of the police. He encouraged them to report any unusual activities, particularly those that might indicate the presence of terrorists or their sympathizers. This appeal is part of a broader strategy to foster a cooperative relationship between the police and the community, which is crucial for effective law enforcement in these sensitive areas.
Inspection of Old Infiltration Routes:
A critical aspect of the visit was the inspection of old infiltration routes in the region, conducted in collaboration with SSP Samba, DySP HQ Samba, and the In-Charge of Police Post Mansar. The team meticulously reviewed the security arrangements along these routes, which have historically been exploited by militants to infiltrate into Indian territory. The inspection focused on identifying potential vulnerabilities and reinforcing existing measures to prevent any future breaches.
DIG Shiv Kumar discussed the current security challenges with his team, emphasizing the need for continuous vigilance and regular monitoring of these routes. The officers also interacted with local villagers to gather intelligence on any recent suspicious activities, underscoring the importance of community-police collaboration in countering infiltration attempts.
Public Awareness Campaign:
As part of the visit, DIG Shiv Kumar led a public awareness campaign aimed at educating the local population about the threat of terrorism and the vital role they play in countering it. He highlighted the importance of immediate reporting of any suspicious activities, stressing that such actions could prevent potential terrorist attacks and save lives. The DIG also informed the residents about the various channels through which they can contact the police, ensuring that help is always accessible.
This awareness drive is aligned with the police department’s broader objectives of enhancing public security and ensuring that residents are well-informed about the dangers posed by terrorism. By involving the community in these efforts, the police aim to create a more secure and resilient environment in the region.
DIG Shiv Kumar’s visit to Bajalta, Surinsar, Mansar, Manwal, and Domail was a comprehensive exercise in both community engagement and security assessment. His interactions with the public and his inspection of infiltration routes reflect the dual focus of the police force on maintaining public trust and ensuring robust security measures in the region. The visit is expected to have a positive impact on the local communities, reassuring them of the police’s dedication to their safety and well-being, while also strengthening the overall security posture in these strategically significant areas.
