Srinagar : In a decisive push to bolster security across Jammu and Kashmir, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat chaired a high-level virtual meeting on Thursday to review the preparations for Republic Day celebrations and assess ongoing counter-terrorism (CT) operations. The meeting, attended by senior officers including Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed and Law & Order Vijay Kumar, ADGP Jammu Anand Jain, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V.K. Birdi, and all Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) across the Union Territory, was a critical step in ensuring peace and stability in the region.
Pir Panjal, Chenab Valley, and South Kashmir Under the Lens:
Reliable sources revealed that the DGP conducted a detailed review of counter-terrorism operations in the sensitive regions of Pir Panjal, Chenab Valley, and South Kashmir. Officers provided him with updates on the current situation and recent developments, outlining the progress made in neutralizing threats.
“Counter-terrorism efforts must be relentless. Target the support systems and logistics networks of terrorist groups to weaken their operations,” Prabhat was quoted as saying during the meeting. He emphasized the need for sustained pressure on terror networks and enhanced intelligence-sharing mechanisms to prevent potential threats.
The DGP also discussed recent attempts of infiltration along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC). While expressing his gratitude to the security forces for successfully thwarting these attempts, he called for heightened vigilance in vulnerable sectors to prevent further breaches.
“Maintaining high-level synergy between J&K Police, the Army, and paramilitary forces is critical for ensuring peace and security in J&K,” he stressed, underscoring the importance of seamless coordination.
Securing Republic Day Celebrations:
With Republic Day just days away, the DGP turned his focus to the security arrangements for the national event. Officers briefed him on the foolproof security grid established across the Union Territory to ensure smooth conduct of the celebrations.
The DGP directed officials to deploy adequate personnel to safeguard key installations, public spaces, and celebration venues. “Vigilance and alertness will be paramount in ensuring the safety of citizens and the sanctity of the event,” he stated.
Combating Misinformation and Strengthening Community Outreach:
Acknowledging the evolving threats in the digital age, the DGP instructed officers to intensify surveillance and monitor social media platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation or attempts to disrupt communal harmony.
Additionally, Prabhat emphasized the importance of community outreach programs, stating that such initiatives can serve as powerful tools to build trust and foster cooperation between the public and security forces.
A Unified Approach:
The high-level meeting concluded with a clear directive from the DGP: unwavering dedication to counter-terrorism operations and an unyielding commitment to maintaining peace during the Republic Day celebrations. His call for synergy, vigilance, and outreach highlighted a multifaceted approach to addressing security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir.
As preparations intensify, the police and allied forces remain resolute in their mission to safeguard the region, ensuring that the Republic Day celebrations are conducted with dignity, pride, and above all, peace.
