The controversy stems from the death of Makhan Din, a resident of Billawar, who was under investigation due to his links with terror outfits operating from Pakistan. Key facts about his background include:
• He was the nephew of Pakistan-exfiltrated terrorist Swar Din alias Swaru Gujjar, a known figure in cross-border militancy.
• He was found to be aiding the same terror group that executed the Badnotta Army convoy attack in July 2024, which resulted in the martyrdom of four Indian Army personnel.
• The same group was also responsible for the martyrdom of Head Constable Bashir in the Kohag operation.
• Makhan Din maintained suspicious contacts in Pakistan and other foreign countries, raising further concerns about his role in facilitating terrorist activities.
