JAMMU: Jammu is witnessing an alarming surge in crime, with criminals becoming increasingly bold and fearless. In a shocking incident, armed dacoits struck a jewelry shop in Greater Kaliash in broad daylight, looting 1.5 kg of gold as per staatement of owner of jewelry shop and escaping without resistance. The incident has sent shockwaves across the city, with traders and residents now living in fear of unchecked criminal activity.
Dacoits in Helmets, Armed with Deadly Weapons:
According to the shop owner, the robbers arrived wearing helmets and carrying weapons, making it difficult to identify them. The assailants stormed into the jewelry shop, brandishing weapons, and threatened the staff before making away with the gold. The entire incident took place in broad daylight, raising serious concerns about law enforcement and public safety.
This dacoity marks the third major crime in Jammu in recent days. Just days ago, the city witnessed the sensational daylight murder of Gattru. Following this, an armed encounter took place in Marin Shaib, where a notorious criminal was injured in police firing. Now, the latest robbery has once again exposed the growing lawlessness in the heart of the city.
Drug Mafia Behind Rising Crime?
Many believe that the surge in crime is linked to the increasing influence of the narcotics trade in Jammu. Drug smuggling has fueled the rise of organized gangs that are now involved in violent crimes, including murder, extortion, and armed robberies.
The police have been actively cracking down on these networks, with numerous Public Safety Act (PSA) and Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS) cases registered against drug traffickers and hardcore criminals. However, the continuing crime spree indicates that more aggressive action is needed to dismantle these networks.
Public Outrage: Protesters Block Roads, Demand Strict Action:
The dacoity in Greater Kaliash has sparked massive public outrage. Shopkeepers, traders, and civil society members took to the streets, blocking roads in protest and demanding immediate action against criminals and drug traffickers. The demonstrators called for stronger policing, faster investigations, and harsher punishments for offenders.
Many traders expressed concerns about their safety, stating that criminals now seem to operate with impunity. “We work hard every day, but if robbers can walk in with weapons and loot us in broad daylight, where is the security?” questioned one of the protesting shopkeepers.
Police Assures Tough Action, Major Manhunt Launched:
In response to public concern, DIG Jammu Shiv Kumar Sharma and SSP Joginder Singh while speaking to us, assured that a massive manhunt is underway to track down the culprits.
“We are fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of Jammu’s residents. These criminals will not be spared, and all drug traffickers and offenders will be behind bars soon,” stated SSP Joginder Singh.
Law enforcement agencies have increased patrolling in the city, and multiple teams have been deployed to track the criminals involved in the dacoity. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage and gathering intelligence to identify the robbers.
What Needs to Be Done?
While the police crackdown is a step in the right direction, experts suggest several urgent measures to prevent further crime:
1. Stronger Intelligence Network – Law enforcement agencies must strengthen their surveillance and intelligence gathering to preempt criminal activities.
2. Increased Police Presence – More patrolling and police deployment in sensitive areas can deter criminals from acting openly.
3. Stricter Laws and Enforcement – Faster trials and stricter sentencing for habitual offenders and drug traffickers.
4. Community Policing – Increased cooperation between police and local communities to identify and eliminate criminal elements.
5. Anti-Narcotics Drive – A focused and sustained campaign against drug smugglers to cut off their financial and operational networks.
Will Jammu Police Be Able to Curb This Crime Wave?
The recent crime spree has left Jammu’s residents shaken, with many questioning the city’s law and order situation. The public now awaits swift action from law enforcement to restore confidence and ensure that such daylight crimes do not become the new normal.
With criminals becoming increasingly daring, the coming days will be crucial in determining whether Jammu Police can take back control and ensure justice is served.
