JAMMU, June 2: In a powerful display of unity and demand for justice, hundreds of residents took to the streets of Gandhi Nagar in a candle march today, calling for a thorough investigation into the murder of Avtar Singh. The victim, embroiled in a land dispute, was allegedly killed under suspicious circumstances that have raised public outcry and accusations against influential bureaucrats.
The march, a somber yet resolute procession, began at Gurudwara shaib Baba Fateh Singh Ji, Gandhi Nagar, Participants, bearing candles and placards with messages such as “Justice for Avtar Singh,” “Revenue Department, Mend Your Ways,” and “Unite Against Bureaucratic Land Mafia,” wound their way through key locations in the Gandhi Nagar. Their collective call was clear: a swift and fair investigation into the circumstances surrounding Singh’s death.
Senior Congress leader Taranjit Singh Tony, addressing the gathered crowd and media, expressed deep disappointment with the civil administration’s handling of the case. “The administration has failed Avtar Singh’s family by not delivering the promised comprehensive report on the disputed land,” he declared. Tony’s criticism extended to the investigation agencies, accusing them of protecting powerful figures rather than seeking justice.
“The relatives of some bureaucrats should have been arrested by now, but that hasn’t happened. This shows that the police are not committed to a fair investigation,” Tony stated, his frustration echoing the sentiments of many present.
Tony’s speech served as a rallying cry for the people of Jammu District. He urged the community to stand by Avtar Singh’s family in their quest for justice. Highlighting the pervasive influence of the alleged land mafia, Tony warned, “The people of Jammu must unite against this powerful land mafia, or risk being targeted next.”
His words underscored the broader implications of Singh’s murder, suggesting that without collective resistance, more families could fall victim to similar injustices.
The candle march, significant in both participation and its message, concluded back at Baba Fateh Singh ji Gurudwara shaib . The event was not just a tribute to Avtar Singh but a resounding declaration of the community’s demand for justice and accountability.
As the candles flickered out, the resolve of those who marched remained strong. The people of Jammu District had sent a clear message that they would not rest until justice was served and those responsible, no matter how powerful, were held accountable.
The demand for justice for Avtar Singh continues to resonate, urging the authorities to act decisively and transparently. The community’s vigilance and unity stand as a testament to their commitment to justice and their determination to root out corruption and abuse of power.
