‘I want to win the 2027 World Cup’: Rohit Sharma
India skipper Rohit Sharma opened up about his future plans with the ‘Men in Blue’, expressing his desire to win the next ICC ODI World Cup in 2027, slated to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Talking about the ODI World Cup 2023 final in which they lost to Australia. He said that we didn’t play bad cricket in the final, it was Men in Yellow who played slightly better than India. “50-over World Cup for me is the actual World Cup. We have grown up watching it. Moreover, it was happening in India in front of our fans. We played so well until that final”, the Indian captain said. “When we won the semifinal, I thought we were just a step away, we were doing everything right. Not a single thing that could make us lose came to my mind. We ticked all the boxes and played good cricket. Confidence was there. I guess we were supposed to have that one bad day and that turned out to be the final. I don’t think we played bad cricket in the final, certain things didn’t go our way. But they were slightly better than us,” the Mumbai Indians player concluded. Rohit talked about his future plans with the ‘Men in Blue’ and said that he wanted to win the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027. “I am still playing well. So I am thinking of continuing for a few more years. I really want to win that WC (50-over). There is a WTC final at Lord’s in 2025. Hopefully, we make it there,” he concluded. Rohit is currently playing in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The veteran batter has managed to score 156 runs in the five matches he has played so far in the IPL 2024, at an average of 31.20. The right-hand batter asserted that IPL has become competitive over the years and there is no weak team in the competions as anyone can beat anyone. “IPL has grown to be so competitive over the years. There is no weak team. Anyone can beat anyone. It was not the case when it started. But there is so much technology available now. Franchises know what holes they have to fill and they do it during the auction,” Rohit said on the show ‘Breakfast with Champions’.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday expressed grief over the deaths of people in the fire incident in Kuwait and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the victims, who were from the state. Two residents of Bihar were among the 45 Indians who died in the fire incident on Wednesday. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, has sent shockwaves through communities both in Kuwait and India. “It is sad that two people from Bihar died in a fire incident in a multi-story building in Kuwait. The Resident Commissioner in New Delhi has been directed to establish contact with the Kuwait Embassy and take action to send the bodies to their native places. The closest relatives of both the deceased have been asked to be given Rs 2 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. I pray to God to give strength to the bereaved family to bear the pain in this hour of grief,” CM Kumar posted on X. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force’s C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft, carrying the mortal remains of the deceased in the Kuwait fire tragedy, arrived at Palam Technical Airport on Friday. BJP MPs Yogendra Chandolia, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Bansuri Swaraj, and other leaders were present at the airport to receive the mortal remains. Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh emphasized that it usually takes 10-15 days, but at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s and EAM Jaishankar’s request, they were able to bring the mortal remains of those Indian nationals who lost their lives in the deadly fire incident.
