Srinagar : In a bold move ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party unveiled its much-anticipated manifesto on Wednesday. Leading the charge for sweeping reforms, the party vowed to restore full statehood to the region, providing a resounding response to the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir who have long yearned for greater autonomy.
Among the key promises, the Apni Party pledged to deliver 500 units of free electricity to the residents, addressing a major demand of the people, particularly as the region grapples with rising utility costs. The party further vowed to release Kashmiri youth currently jailed under public safety acts, provided they were not involved in heinous crimes, offering a path towards rehabilitation and peace.
Rafi Ahmad Mir, the party’s general secretary, while addressing a press conference, reaffirmed the Apni Party’s commitment to fighting for the restoration of full statehood. “This is not just a political slogan, but a mission we will pursue relentlessly,” said Mir. He stressed the need to restore amended laws that have stripped away protections over land and jobs, a move the party sees as vital for preserving the identity and livelihood of the local population.
Mir also spoke about the party’s plan to bring back Kashmiri Pandits to their homeland, highlighting the urgency of addressing the suffering and displacement endured by this community. “Our vision is one of inclusivity and return. We will ensure the return of Kashmiri Pandits with dignity and honor,” he remarked.
The manifesto’s central pillar of quashing public safety acts against youth comes as a relief to many families. “Our aim is to ensure that those youths who have been caught in unfortunate circumstances but are not involved in heinous crimes are given a second chance through one-time amnesty,” said Mir. The party sees this as a step toward reconciliation and addressing the grievances of the people of Kashmir.
