New Delhi : Union Home Minister Amit Shah today unveiled the cutting-edge ‘Bharatpol’ portal at the Bharat Mandapam, heralding a transformative era in the realm of international investigations. Developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), this innovative portal is poised to accelerate cooperation between Indian agencies and the Interpol, ensuring a more robust response to global crime and fugitives.
In his address, Amit Shah emphasized the imperative need for India to adopt modern technology and advanced investigative techniques. “It is time we use modern technology and techniques to nab and bring to justice the fugitives who absconded from India after committing crimes,” he asserted. Highlighting the dynamic features of Bharatpol, Shah stated that its real-time interface would facilitate seamless connectivity between central and state agencies with the Interpol, ensuring faster resolution of cases.
A Strategic Step Forward:
Bharatpol is envisioned as a game-changer, empowering Indian law enforcement agencies to collaborate with the 195 member nations of Interpol with unprecedented efficiency. The platform enables the sharing and retrieval of critical case information, paving the way for swifter investigations and the apprehension of offenders who seek refuge abroad.
The Home Minister also stressed the importance of staying ahead of global challenges. “We have to keep an eye on global challenges and update our internal systems. Bharatpol is a step in that direction,” Shah said, lauding the portal as a vital tool in India’s fight against international crime.
Empowering Investigators with Training:
Recognizing the need for capacity building, Shah urged the CBI to take the lead in training state agencies on utilizing Bharatpol effectively. He also highlighted the necessity of familiarizing agencies with the intricacies of Interpol notices and their associated procedures. “We need to institutionalize these systems along with the knowledge of various kinds of Interpol notices and their procedures,” he remarked.
The launch aligns with the Modi government’s broader strategy to strengthen India’s criminal justice system. Last year, the government introduced three pivotal criminal laws aimed at enhancing the judicial process for fugitives and absconders. Shah expressed confidence that these laws, combined with Bharatpol, would ensure more effective trials and a stronger deterrent against international crime.
A Collaborative Effort
The CBI, which oversees Interpol-related affairs as India’s National Central Bureau, will manage the Bharatpol portal. Its real-time functionality is expected to reduce bureaucratic delays, streamline communication, and foster greater accountability.
PTI’s Role in Bringing Awareness:
The introduction of Bharatpol was first reported by PTI, reflecting the pivotal role of the media in spotlighting significant developments.
The launch of Bharatpol underscores India’s commitment to combating transnational crime through innovation and collaboration. By empowering investigative agencies with advanced tools and fostering global partnerships, the government is setting a new benchmark in ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law.
With Bharatpol, India takes a giant leap forward in addressing international crime, strengthening its position as a global leader in law enforcement and justice delivery.
