On Monday, a meticulously orchestrated mock drill was conducted at the Yatri Niwas base camp in Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, by the Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and the Special Operations Group (SoG) of the police.
The 52-day pilgrimage to the sacred 3,880-meter-high Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir is scheduled to commence on June 29 and conclude on August 19. The mock drill was a comprehensive exercise involving the first responder team of the sub-division headquarters, including all territorial officers from the sub-division. The SoG Jammu, alongside other territorial police officers from adjacent sub-divisions and their QRTs, also played a crucial role in the exercise.
“The primary objective of this exercise was to provide practical training to the entire team, ensuring they are well-prepared to handle real-time operations in the event of any unforeseen incidents,” a police officer stated. The drill not only tested the coordination between various units but also highlighted the efficiency of the response strategies in place.
The exercise concluded successfully, showcasing the readiness and seamless coordination of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The participating units demonstrated their capability to handle potential threats effectively, boosting confidence in the security measures surrounding the pilgrimage.
In light of the upcoming Yatra, the police issued an “alert advisory” on Wednesday, urging residents of the Jammu region to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or objects immediately. This advisory underscores the importance of community involvement in maintaining the safety and security of the pilgrimage.
As the date for the pilgrimage draws near, the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s proactive measures and rigorous training exercises signal their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the devotees.
