Advisor Ladakh convenes a meeting to strengthen Support for Statistical Strengthening Scheme
Leh, October 03, 2024: The Advisor to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor UT Ladakh, and the Chairman of the High-Level Steering Committee (HLSC) to implement the Support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS) Scheme, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, chaired a meeting to discuss and recommend draft activities of “Support for Statistical Strengthening”, at Civil Secretariat Leh.
The meeting commenced with a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, given by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (PD&MD) Tsering Angdus.
The presentation covering key aspects, including introduction of the Support For Statistical Strengthening (SSS). It is a fully centrally sponsored scheme since 2014, earlier it was sponsored by world Bank for the improvement in the statistical system of the country ( Indian statistical system) by giving uniform methodology and technical support in maintaining quality data and real time data by using modern technologies and IT infrastructure & physical infrastructure to all the states and UT’s.
During the meeting, discussions and deliberations were held on the prime objectives of the scheme. Directorate of Economics and Statistics (PD&MD) briefed the Advisor about the primary objectives of the scheme, aimed to cover 20 core statistics for the better implementation of plan and programs by government and to measure the growth & development.
Tsering Angdus said that Ladakh has for the first time submitted the draft programme to NAD, MoSPI primarily focusing on capacity building and data warehousing of all the sector of economy for the calculation of state Gross Domestic Product (which almost directly or indirectly uses all the 20 core statistics) like IIP, CPI, WPI, NSS surveys and capital formation etc. It is pertinent to mention here, under Support for Statistical Strengthening Scheme (SSS) , UT ladakh is getting 3.09 cr distributed against 8 components.
The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary UT Ladakh; Commissioner Secretary PDM UT Ladakh; District Magistrate Leh and Kargil; Deputy Director Planning; and other concerned officials.
