DIG JSK Range Conducts Security Review in Kathua’s Far-Flung Areas Ahead of 2024 Assembly Elections

KATHUA: The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Sh. Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, conducted a comprehensive security review across the remote regions of Kathua district in preparation for the upcoming Assembly Elections. The areas visited by the DIG included Basantpur, Satwain, Mahanpur, Basohli, Sheetal Nagar/Bhoond, and Bani.
During his tour, DIG Sharma held strategic meetings with members of the civil administration and paramilitary forces. He emphasized the importance of performing election-related duties with the utmost sensitivity and commitment, assuring full cooperation from the Jammu and Kashmir Police. To further strengthen coordination, the DIG met with the Brigade Commander of Bani, where they discussed joint anti-terror operations, including Cordon and Search Operations, to address any potential threats. The Brigade Commander assured DIG Sharma that forces would work in close coordination to neutralize any terrorist threats in the region swiftly.
In addition to the security review, DIG Sharma made a stop at the Police Post Bhoond, where he instructed officers to prioritize public grievance redressal, particularly for female complainants. He emphasized that women staff should handle female-related cases, and he stressed the importance of addressing issues like NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances), road accidents, and land disputes with diligence.
The DIG also interacted with members of the Village Defence Groups (VDGs) to assess their training and readiness. He reiterated the importance of their duties in ensuring security and provided them with necessary guidelines.
In conclusion, DIG Sharma directed territorial officers to implement foolproof security measures throughout the election campaign and maintain heightened vigilance, given the sensitive nature of the election period. His visit highlights the administration’s focus on ensuring a safe and secure environment for the elections in this strategically important district.
