Jammu Police Crack Greater Kailash Loot Case, Arrest Three Accused

Jammu: In a significant breakthrough, the Jammu Police announced the successful resolution of a violent loot case that took place in the Greater Kailash area on July 22, 2024. During a press conference held at Police Post Greater Kailash, SP South Jammu, Ajay Sharma, along with SDPO South Kartik Sohatriya IPS, SHO Gangyal Satveer Singh, and I/C PP Greater Kailash, provided details of the investigation that led to the arrest of the culprits.
Incident Overview:On July 22, Sudheer Kumar, a resident of Dist. Auraiya, UP, currently residing in Upper Krishna Nagar, Jammu, filed a complaint about an attempted murder and robbery incident near Fawara Chowk. According to Kumar, he and his colleague Devendra Kumar were returning home from their workplace at Dainik Jagran Newspaper, Badi Brahmana, around 2:30 AM on a motorcycle. They were attacked by three youths on another motorcycle who kicked their vehicle, causing them to fall. The assailants, armed with sharp weapons, seriously injured Kumar’s arm before fleeing with his motorcycle.
Kumar’s statement detailed the harrowing experience: “Today on Monday around 2:30 AM, I am on my way home from my office, Dainik Jagran Newspaper, Badi Brahmana. I was traveling with my colleague Devendra Kumar on my motorcycle (Splender Black). When we reached near Fawara Chowk, suddenly three youths on a motorcycle came from behind and kicked our vehicle. We lost control and fell on the road. The attackers, armed with sharp weapons, attacked me. I put my arm forward to save my head, which resulted in serious injuries to my arm. The attackers took my motorcycle and fled the scene. Then I called the police control room number 100 at 2:35 am, and an ambulance was sent to the spot. I am currently admitted to Jammu’s Government Medical College Hospital.”
Police Response:Upon receiving the complaint, FIR No. 73/2024 under sections 126(2)/115(2)/304(a) BNS & 4/25 Arms Act was registered at PS Gangyal. Multiple police teams were deployed to analyze CCTV footage and gather human intelligence. Their efforts led to the apprehension of the three suspects, including two minors, led by Ilyas Matoo, alias Alex, from Bari Brahmana, Samba.
Investigation Findings:During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the attack and provided information leading to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle, the weapon used in the crime, and the vehicle used by the assailants. The police also arrested the individual who had received the stolen property. Further questioning revealed their involvement in two other similar cases, resulting in additional recoveries, including a mobile phone and other weapons used in these crimes.
Detailed Recovery and Arrests:The police teams worked diligently to piece together the events leading up to the crime. CCTV footage analysis and information from local informants played a crucial role in identifying and tracking down the suspects. The primary accused, Ilyas Matoo, was found to be a repeat offender with a history of similar crimes. His two accomplices, both minors, were similarly involved in multiple offenses.

A ‘toka’ (sharp weapon) used in the attack.
The motorcycle used by the assailants during the crime.
Mobile phones and other personal belongings stolen in previous incidents.
