PM Pays Homage on Kargil Vijay Diwas and Attends Shradhanjali Samaroh in Ladakh

KARGIL: Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, marks India’s victory in the Kargil War against Pakistan in 1999. On this solemn occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the martyrs and attended a Shradhanjali Samaroh in Ladakh, honoring the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Witnesses First Blast of the Strategic Shinkun La Tunnel Project:
As part of his visit, PM Modi witnessed the inaugural blast for the Shinkun La Tunnel project. This tunnel, once completed, will provide all-weather connectivity between the Zanskar Valley in Ladakh and the Lahaul-Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh, significantly enhancing the strategic and economic landscape of the region.
The Prime Minister remarked, “Shinkun La tunnel will open doors of new possibilities for the development and better future of Ladakh.” This tunnel is expected to revolutionize transportation and boost tourism and trade, providing new opportunities for the local population.
Remembrance and Respect for Kargil Heroes:
During his speech, PM Modi emphasized the timeless nature of the sacrifices made by the soldiers, stating, “Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds us that the sacrifices made for the nation are immortal.” He acknowledged the bravery and dedication of the Indian armed forces, which played a crucial role in securing the nation’s borders.
He also mentioned, “In Kargil, we not only won the war, we presented an incredible example of truth, restraint and strength.” This victory is seen not only as a military triumph but also as a testament to the country’s resilience and unity.
New Era for Jammu and Kashmir:
Reflecting on the progress in Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi said, “Today Jammu and Kashmir is talking about a new future, talking about big dreams.” The region, which has seen significant changes in recent years, is now focusing on development and growth, moving away from its troubled past.
The Prime Minister highlighted the increase in the budget allocation for Ladakh, noting that it has risen from ₹1,100 crore to ₹6,000 crore in the past five years. This substantial increase underscores the government’s commitment to the region’s development and prosperity.
Agnipath Scheme: Enhancing Defense Capabilities:
Addressing the Agnipath scheme, PM Modi explained its importance in maintaining a young and battle-ready armed force. He stated, “The purpose of the Agnipath Scheme is to keep forces young and continuously battle-ready.” The scheme is designed to infuse fresh talent into the military, ensuring that the country’s defense remains robust and dynamic.
He added, “The truth is that the Agnipath scheme will increase the strength of the country and the country will also get capable youth.” The scheme aims to provide young Indians with an opportunity to serve in the armed forces and contribute to national security.
A National Victory:
Emphasizing the collective nature of the Kargil victory, the Prime Minister declared, “The victory of Kargil was not the victory of any government or any party. This victory belongs to the country.” He underscored the unity and determination of the Indian people and the armed forces during the conflict, highlighting that this triumph is a source of national pride.
