Kathua: In a tragic incident on Monday, five Indian Army personnel were martyred and five others injured following an ambush by terrorists in the remote Machedi area of Kathua district. The attack, which took place around 3:30 PM near Badnota village on the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road, approximately 150 kilometers from Kathua town, marks a significant escalation in the region’s ongoing security challenges.

An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “The injured troopers, initially transported to a military hospital for treatment, succumbed to their injuries.” The attack began with the terrorists hurling grenades and opening fire on Army vehicles conducting a routine patrol. Security forces promptly retaliated, but the assailants managed to escape into the nearby forest. Reports indicate that intermittent gunfire exchanges continued between the terrorists and security personnel.
