Poonch :The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, made a resounding commitment to address the challenges faced by the Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at the Gurmat Samagam at Yadgar Shri Sant Bhai Bahadur Singh Dharamsala in Khari Poonch, the former Chief Minister emphasized the party’s dedication to inclusivity and support for all communities.
Dr. Abdullah was joined by a delegation that included party MP Mian Altaf Ahmad, Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta, YNC Provincial President Ajaz Jan, Minority Wing Coordinator S. Jagdish Singh Azad, among others. During the event, Harcharan Singh Khalsa presented a memorandum of demands to Dr. Abdullah, highlighting the pressing needs of the Sikh community.
In his address to the devotees, Dr. Abdullah praised the Sikh community for their invaluable contributions to the history and culture of Jammu and Kashmir. “The Sikh community has left an indelible mark on the history of Jammu and Kashmir. Their enduring legacy is a testament to their unwavering commitment to the syncretic traditions of the region and their steadfast dedication to upholding the banner of brotherhood during the most tumultuous of times,” he said.
Dr. Abdullah highlighted the pivotal role played by the Sikhs in shaping the region’s cultural landscape, serving as a beacon of hope and unity in challenging times. “Their contributions have not only shaped the cultural landscape of the region but have also served as a beacon of hope and unity in the face of adversity. The Sikhs stand as a shining example of resilience and strength, their presence a reminder of the power of unity in the face of adversity,” he added.
Reaffirming NC’s commitment, Dr. Abdullah stressed the need for providing equal opportunities for educated Sikh youth. “The need of the hour calls for recognizing and addressing the unique challenges and barriers faced by the Sikh community, which remain unattended by the successive non-NC Governments since 2015. We will work towards creating a more inclusive and welcoming society for all individuals, regardless of their background or beliefs,” he asserted.

Dr. Abdullah’s message was clear: the National Conference will continue to stand as a pillar of support for the Sikh community, fostering a spirit of unity and resilience in Jammu and Kashmir.
