Teryath Village, Poni Area- In a defiant display of faith and resilience, devotees continue their pilgrimage to the revered Shiv Khori temple, undeterred by a recent terrorist attack that claimed nine lives, including a two-year-old boy and his mother, on a pilgrim bus this past Sunday. The incident, which unfolded near Teryath village, has not dampened the spirits of the faithful, who trust in the security forces and the divine protection of their deities.
On Tuesday, a palpable sense of solidarity and patriotism enveloped the air as groups of devotees paused at the site of the tragic attack. With fervent chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Bharatiya Sena Zindabad,” they offered prayers for the departed souls, transforming the somber location into a temporary shrine of nationalistic reverence.
Among the pilgrims was Neha Mahajan, part of a 20-member group from Maharashtra. Recounting their journey, Neha said, “We came to know about the terror attack through news but decided to continue our journey to have darshan of Mata Rani (Vaishno Devi).” The group, having recently visited the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, made a poignant stop at the scene of the attack, where the wreckage of the assaulted bus still lay in a gorge, a grim reminder of the violence that had transpired.
“Whatever happened was terrible. The dead included a two-year-old boy and his mother … We pray for the departed souls,” Neha added, her voice heavy with emotion.
Despite the shadow of fear cast by the attack, the devotees’ resolve remains unshaken. “Fear is natural but we have full faith in our security forces who defend our country without fear for their lives. We have faith in our Lord,” said Gauri Mahajan, another devotee from Maharashtra. Her sentiments were echoed by Sahil, another member of the group, who affirmed their unwavering confidence in their safety. “We performed darshan at Vaishno Devi and are now heading for Shiv Khori … The attackers will be punished as our Army is carrying out a massive hunt for them,” he stated, emphasizing his belief in the strength and resolve of the Indian armed forces. “We pray for good sense to prevail in the enemy camp otherwise our forces will wipe them out.”
The authorities have reported no decline in the number of visitors to the Vaishno Devi shrine, located in the Trikuta hills, about 80 km from Shiv Khori temple. In light of the recent attack, a thorough security review has been conducted at both pilgrimage sites to ensure the safety of the devotees. “Adequate security arrangements are in place at both Vaishno Devi and Shiv Khori temples. A fresh security review of both places was carried out in the wake of the terror attack,” an official stated.
Enhanced security measures are now visible along the main roads leading to Shiv Khori, with additional forces deployed from both the Reasi and Rajouri sides. These steps aim to reassure pilgrims and demonstrate the authorities’ commitment to their safety and the sanctity of these holy sites.
As the devotees continue their journey, their actions stand as a testament to the indomitable spirit of faith and the unyielding trust in both divine protection and the capability of the nation’s security forces. In the face of terror, the pilgrims’ unwavering resolve sends a clear message: neither fear nor violence can deter the faithful from their spiritual quests.
