PM Modi Condoles Demise Of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the demise of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, brother of Dubai Ruler and UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi extended his condolences to the Al Maktoum family and the people of Dubai, and recalled Sheikh Ahmed’s contributions to society.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. His efforts to serve society will be cherished by generations to come. I convey heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family and the people of Dubai. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” PM Modi posted.
Earlier on Monday, the Court of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the passing of Sheikh Ahmed at the age of 76.
The Government of Dubai Media Office said a 10-day period of official mourning had been declared across the emirate, during which flags would be flown at half-mast.
“The Court of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, mourns the passing of the late Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum this morning, Monday,” the Dubai Media Office said in a post on X.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also paid tribute to his brother following his demise.
Sheikh Ahmed was the fourth and youngest son of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, former Ruler of Dubai. He held several senior positions across Dubai’s security, sports and business sectors.
He served as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security, Group Chairman of A.R.M. Holding and President of Al Wasl Sports Club.
According to biographical information published by Al Wasl Sports Club, Sheikh Ahmed graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom before joining Dubai’s Central Military Region, where he later became Commander-in-Chief.
He was also associated with the development of horse racing in the UAE. In the early 1990s, Sheikh Ahmed founded Jebel Ali Racecourse, contributing to the development and promotion of the sport in the country.
Sheikh Ahmed’s contributions to Dubai’s security, sports and business sectors were recalled following his death, with senior leaders and officials offering condolences to the Al Maktoum family.
