*EJM College, Leh Hosts International Academic Interaction on Himalayan Geology and Earth Sciences*
Leh, 25 August 2026: The Department of Geography, Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh, organised an International Academic Interaction on “Exploring the Himalaya: Geology, Geophysics & Earth History” on 25 August 2026 at the New Conference Hall of the College. The programme brought together distinguished international and Indian experts for an enriching interaction with students and faculty members of Geography and Geology.
The distinguished guests included Dr. Michał Krobicki, Geologist and Paleontologist; Dr. Krzysztof Starzec, Geologist; and Dr. Anna Kwietniak, Applied Geophysicist, all from AGH University of Krakow, Poland, along with Dr. Jaishri Sanwal Bhatt, Geologist from the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru.
The programme commenced with a traditional welcome by Prof. Stanzin Yangdol, Principal, EJM College, Leh, who felicitated the distinguished guests with traditional Khataks, symbolising Ladakh’s warm hospitality and respect for guests.
The academic sessions covered a diverse range of topics, including the “Welcome to Poland” project, Quaternary seismic deposits and paleoseismology in the Indian and Nepal Himalaya, applied geophysics and subsurface exploration, and the palaeobiogeographical significance of Early Jurassic Lithiotis-type bivalves in understanding the geological evolution of the Himalayan–Karakoram–Tibet region and the opening of the Neotethys.
The interaction provided students with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with experts in geology, paleontology, paleoseismology and geophysics, connecting classroom learning with contemporary research in Earth sciences. The discussions also highlighted the potential for academic exchange, research collaboration and future opportunities for students and young researchers.
The programme was organised by the Department of Geography, EJM College, Leh, with enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The College expressed its gratitude to the distinguished guests for sharing their expertise and contributing to a highly enriching academic experience.
