Over 200 Jhuggies Searched, Nine Suspects Rounded Up as South Zone Jammu Police Intensifies Anti-Drug Crackdown

Jammu : In a major offensive against drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, South Zone Jammu Police on Thursday carried out an extensive Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Maratha Mohalla, Trikuta Nagar, acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding suspected ganja peddling activities in the area.
The large-scale operation witnessed the deployment of a significant police force, which conducted meticulous searches of more than 200 jhuggies and surrounding locations. During the drive, nine suspects were rounded up and taken for sustained questioning and verification as part of efforts to identify individuals involved in narcotics-related activities and other unlawful practices.
Police sources said the operation was launched following credible information about the movement and activities of drug peddlers in the locality. The search was aimed at dismantling drug distribution networks, preventing the spread of narcotics among youth, and maintaining law and order in the area.
The operation was personally supervised by the Superintendent of Police (SP), South Zone Jammu and SDPO East Jammu and was executed with the active participation of officers and personnel from various police units of the South Zone. Teams carried out door-to-door searches and verification exercises to gather information and detect any illegal activities.
Officials stated that the action forms part of the sustained campaign being undertaken by Jammu Police under Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, a mission focused on eradicating the menace of drugs by targeting both suppliers and consumers. The initiative has seen a series of raids, arrests, awareness programmes, and preventive measures aimed at creating a drug-free society.
A police spokesperson said that such operations would continue across vulnerable areas based on intelligence inputs and ground assessments. The spokesperson emphasized that Jammu Police remains committed to taking strict action against drug traffickers and anti-social elements who threaten public safety and the well-being of the community.
Appealing for public cooperation, police urged citizens to share information regarding drug trafficking, substance abuse, or any suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods. Officials assured that information provided by the public would be treated confidentially and acted upon promptly.
The latest operation underscores the resolve of Jammu Police to strengthen its anti-drug campaign and curb the spread of narcotics through proactive enforcement and community participation.
