Srinagar : Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat (IPS) on Thursday said that Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and narco-terrorism remain the biggest threats to Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that police will intensify operations to dismantle cross-border drug syndicates and their networks.
Addressing a press conference at PCR Kashmir in Srinagar, the DGP said the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” has significantly strengthened anti-drug operations across the Union Territory. He stated that Jammu and Kashmir Police has maintained consistent performance in tackling narcotics-related crimes since 2023, especially in areas such as property attachment, preventive detentions, and seizure of contraband substances.
Prabhat said there has been a sustained rise in the attachment of properties linked to narcotics trafficking between 2023 and 2026. He added that J&K Police ranked third nationally in 2025 in property attachment related to drug trafficking cases.
Highlighting preventive measures, the DGP said 240 PIT-NDPS detentions were carried out in 2025, placing J&K Police first in the country under the category. He further revealed that NDPS cases registered under the “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” witnessed nearly a seven-fold increase compared to the previous year.
According to the DGP, police registered 724 NDPS cases across Jammu and Kashmir and arrested 806 persons involved in narcotics trade. Among the major arrests were Gulzar Ahmad alias Lahu Gujar, wanted in 28 cases, and Avneet Singh alias Nagi, wanted in 17 cases in Jammu province.
He said police seized 667 kilograms of narcotics and over 90,000 units of psychotropic substances during the campaign, while preventive action was initiated against 24 habitual drug offenders.
Prabhat further informed that 97 properties worth Rs 41.85 crore linked to narcotics trafficking have been identified and attached so far. He noted that Anantnag Police attached properties worth Rs 6.17 crore in a single case. In a first-of-its-kind action, J&K Police also attached properties located outside the Union Territory, including in Gurdaspur, Pathankot, and Chandigarh.
The DGP said Kulgam Police attached properties worth Rs 93 lakh in the Beni Charana area of Jammu to establish backward linkages in narcotics cases.
He added that 41 properties worth nearly Rs 15 crore, identified as proceeds of drug trafficking, were demolished after following legal procedures. Besides, illicit poppy and cannabis cultivation spread over 117 kanals of land was destroyed during the anti-drug drive.
The DGP also highlighted intensified inspections of pharmaceutical establishments. He said police checked 5,238 chemists and drug shops, while action was initiated against 151 establishments found violating norms. During the campaign, authorities also disposed of 4,962 kilograms of narcotics and 6,493 units of psychotropic substances.
Prabhat said driving licences of 162 persons involved in narcotics-related cases were cancelled or suspended. Additionally, registration certificates of 92 vehicles used in drug trafficking were either suspended or cancelled.
He further stated that recommendations have been made for impounding 10 passports linked to narcotics-related activities.
Reiterating the force’s commitment, the DGP said Jammu and Kashmir Police will continue its crackdown on terrorism, narco networks, and all those involved in destabilizing peace in the region.
