₹60 Lakh Property of Notorious Drug Peddler Forfeited Under SAFEMA in Poonch

Poonch: In a major boost to the ongoing crackdown on narcotics and narco-terror networks, the Competent Authority under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA) has confirmed the attachment of a residential property belonging to a notorious drug peddler in District Poonch.
The attached property belongs to Sajjad Hussain Shah, son of Sarfraz Hussain Shah, a resident of Potha village in Surankote tehsil. Shah is a habitual offender with multiple cases registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The residential house, valued at around ₹60 lakh, was earlier seized and frozen by Police Station Surankote and has now been formally confirmed for forfeiture following completion of all due legal procedures under SAFEMA.
Police officials said the accused is presently lodged in District Jail Udhampur under PIT-NDPS proceedings. The confirmation of attachment of his illegally acquired property is aimed at crippling the financial resources that fuel drug trafficking and associated narco-terror activities in the region.
District Police Poonch stated that it has adopted an aggressive, intelligence-driven approach to tackle narcotics networks by focusing on financial investigations. In recent months, properties worth several crores of rupees belonging to drug peddlers and their associates have been attached, while multiple bank accounts linked to suspicious and disproportionate financial transactions have been frozen.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of SSP Poonch Shafket Hussain, Additional SP Poonch Mohan Sharma, SDPO Surankote Surinder Singh and SHO Surankote Ejaz Wani.
Reiterating its commitment to eradicating the drug menace, District Police Poonch has urged the general public to cooperate by sharing credible information related to drug trafficking and other associated criminal activities.
