Satish Golcha Appointed New Delhi Police Commissioner
The Central government on Thursday appointed senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Satish Golcha as the new Commissioner of Police, Delhi.
Golcha, a 1992-batch officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre, is currently serving as Director General (Prisons), Delhi. He will assume charge immediately and continue in the post until further orders, according to an official order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Golcha succeeds IPS officer SBK Singh, who had been holding additional charge of the Delhi Police Commissioner alongside his role as Director General of Home Guards since August 1, 2025, following the retirement of Sanjay Arora on July 31.
Since May last year, Golcha has served as DG of Prisons, overseeing Tihar Jail, Mandoli, and Rohini, initially in an interim capacity to manage rising jail violence and gang-related unrest, before the posting was regularised.
The AGMUT cadre officer has previously held key positions, including DGP of Arunachal Pradesh from February 2022 to June 2023, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Joint Commissioner of Police, and Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order).
Golcha notably served as Special CP (Law and Order) during the 2020 North-East Delhi riots, playing a central role in restoring order during a challenging period. He has also held the post of Special Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) in the Delhi Police.
