LG Manoj Sinha Inaugurates 1975 Emergency Exhibition in Jammu | Samvidhan Hatya Diwas Observed
Jammu | June 26
Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today inaugurated the 1975 Emergency Exhibition at the Convention Centre, Jammu, as part of the Samvidhan Hatya Diwas observance. The event highlights the darkest chapter in Indian democracy — the Emergency imposed in 1975, which lasted for 21 months.
In his address, LG Sinha said:
“During the Emergency, the soul of the nation was crushed. Civil liberties were suspended, constitutional safeguards were violated, and the vision of nation-building was deeply damaged. It remains the most inhuman act in Indian democratic history.”
The exhibition pays tribute to the brave citizens, journalists, and leaders who fought against the authoritarian regime and upheld the core values of democracy and constitutional integrity.
“Samvidhan Hatya Diwas is not only a reminder of a dark past but also a moment to reflect, reaffirm our faith in democratic principles, and strengthen our commitment to constitutional morality,” he added.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that such historical events should serve as lessons for future generations to protect freedom of speech, judicial independence, and democratic institutions.
